Irish Fall Camp Starts Today August 4

IRISH set up Fall Camp on Cartier Field

Duh like we fans didn’t know.

Well it’s here then.  Fall Camp.  Gee it seems like just yesterday we watched the 2012 edition of the Blue & Gold Game.  NOT!
So what should we expect?  We can’t wait.

*** The third year for a coach is supposed to be one where things turn around according to all the pundits and bean counters that track stuff like that.
***Hopefully, VERY early expect Brian Kelly to be naming a starting quarterback and backup.  Come on let’s move forward and not wait two weeks.  With Tommy Rees suspended the job has been made just that much simpler for Everett Golson.  Kelly recruited EG so it makes sense that he should be the man.  Two warm up games Navy and Purdue for EG to sink his teeth into.  OK, these days there are no gimmes or warm ups and we all know it.  Not after Navy, Tulsa, South Florida, UConn, Syracuse, et. al.
*** Figuring out whether we have any kind of a wide receiver corps able to go long and catch a pass from a yet unnamed quarterback.  Plus both over the middle and along the sideline passes.  The heck with the fad in the end zone please.  Tired of that joke.  Tired of that play.  John Goodman is going to surprise a lot of folks.  Mark my words.  You can’t just replace Floyd or Tate.  However you can utilize Goodman, TJ Jones, Robby Toma and a bunch of freshman and spread the wealth around to …. see below.

*** Can we free up Tyler Eifert from being double teamed by a nasty bunch of enemy linebackers and defensive ends bent on holding and disrupting Eifert’s pattern.
*** Who will kick PAT’s and FG’s?  Kyle Brindza or Nick Tausch.  This is a very important position that has escaped scrutiny during of the off-season.  David Ruffer was 10-16 on FG’s last year and hurt us in two games with misses.
*** Can our Special Teams help an offense with a young quarterback by scoring some points?  Such in getting a punting game going and improve upon George Atkinson III kickoff return statistics from last year (two returns for TD’s).

*** Gee, how about the defense.  Can it get us some take-a-ways to help the offense?
*** Can we get consistent in the punting game to help the defense?

*** Can we band-aid a defensive backfield of proven safeties, cornerbacks and wantabees into something that will give the enemy pause?
*** Will defensive ends Kapron Lewis-Moore and Stephon Tuitt help us forget the defection of Aaron Lynch of USF.  Enough of a pass rush to support a young and unproven secondary.

**** The injury list has been whittled down to Luke Massa and Austin Collinsworth.  Both are still question marks for the season.
*** We here at the Subway Alumni Station are expecting to jump the Green Line and see some great things this the third year of the Brian Kelly Era.  It obviously must start today.
GO IRISH.  Think Positive.
