Dropping Like Flies

Brian Kelly is going to earn his paycheck this year.  Cornerback Lo Wood has apparently gone down with an Achilles injury and the word is flying around that he is lost for the season.  Our weakest link was cornerback before he got hunt.

Remember we lost Gary Grey and Robert Blanton to graduation.  Although some would say Grey was not a loss.  He ended up undrafted and had a spring tryout with the Lions to no avail.

Converted WR Bennett Jackson and CB Josh Atkinson who both played sparingly last year is about it back there for experience.

Kelly before the injury to Wood had been experimenting with a number of freshman and others to shore up the cornerback position.  Part of the problem revolves around Ronald Darby who decommitted and Tee Shepard who dropped out of Notre Dame.  Both were hailed as potential CB starters as freshmen.

To protect a weak secondary you need a strong pass rush.  It remains to be seen if we can mount one this year without Aaron Lynch.

This is going to be interesting with teams that can pass when they need to such as USC, OK and even UM.  Yes, UM, Robinson beat us last year with a wobbly arm, not his feet.

Dublin will be more interesting now.  Navy and the option have a quarterback who is a better passer than runner.

Check out the injury list on the left side of the Blog.
